The Porsche 911 C4S resto-mod... this HAS to be our favourite project to date!
This project allowed us to mix our expertise in restoration techniques with our flair and eye for detail, by taking what was already a stunning marque and turning it into something truly special! By adding some subtle (and also some not-so subtle!) modifications we have created a beauty that holds its own amongst modern supercars.
To the unknowing this car looks like it has just rolled off the production line of a Porsche dealership this year... with the combination of Porsche's iconic styling remaining very similar over the years, and our bold choices in modern styling it would be hard to believe this vehicle is over 20 years old! Read on below to embark on this car's journey with us as we let you in on a few of the twists and tails on display with our Porsche 911 C4S!
THE BODYWORK
First things first we started with a full exterior strip down to see what we were working with and prepped every single nook and cranny, checking for any damages or imperfections along the way. We did some some previous repairs that needed attention along with additional rust treatments we have carried out.
THE “WHALE TAIL” SPOILER
This spoiler deserves a special mention of its own! Taking over 12 weeks to arrive, and although we expected a little prep work being a fibreglass panel, it turned up in lets say less than satisfactory condition! We had a lot of work on our hands to repair the panel, re-shape it to the body lines of the 911 and perfect the panel gaps. Finally we created a custom made boot latch to ensure a perfect flush fit!
PREP & PAINT
Once the bodywork had been completed we were then ready to coat everything in high-build primer. Following the primer stage we then blocked the panels down to fine tune everything and begin to think about getting it ready for the booth. Hours of masking later we finally had this one ready for some paint! We put in endless research to find the perfect colour choice for this vehicle that really would compliment the beautiful body lines and features, creating our own custom colour.
THE BRAKES
Something else we take super seriously here at Autoprofile is creating and maintaining a beautiful brake set-up, and this Porsche does not disappoint! All 4 corners were a chore to separate but we got there in the end, renewing the discs, pads, backing plates and a complete refurbishment of the calipers. We have then refinished the calipers in gloss black with new gold logos.
THE WHEELS
What a nightmare we had sourcing wheels.. upsizing from the original 19” to these 20” beauties was not easy, with limited options and endless calculations we eventually managed to source these BBS CH-R II’s in specialist Matt Bronze finish with Gloss Black lip all the way from the Netherlands! It was touch-and go if we were going to receive them in time but a last minute push got them here in time and bolted to the car.
THE FINISH
The final week before show date our 911 has been over with our friends at Unique Detail, based in Toddington, for full machine polishing, enhancement and ceramic coating to protect our hard work and take the finish to the next level!
